Testing of Residents after Islands Hospice Staff Tests Positive for COVID-19

Aloha Residents of Palolo Chinese Home:

On December 5, 2020, the Palolo Chinese Home (PCH) received confirmation from Islands Hospice, a partner service provider, that one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.  This employee provided direct care to eight PCH residents between December 2nd to December 4th, 2020.  As a precaution PCH will be administering PCR tests to all staff and residents who may have been in contact with the Islands Hospice employee during that time on Monday, December 7.

PCH is working closely with the Department of Health (DOH) and with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

PCH will be sharing any updates on the PCH hotline (808) 748-4906 and on our website at www.palolohome.org.

Palolo Chinese Home implements the following strict mitigation strategies:

  • Only essential employees are reporting for work.
  • PCH continues facility-wide screening of all staff and visitors upon arrival to its campus.  This includes temperature checks, screening of COVID-19 symptoms, and brief contact tracing questions to determine any potential risk of exposure.
  • We continue to monitor our residents for any signs or symptoms of any illness or changes in their health condition
  • All employees have been required to wear face masks since March and face shields since August.

We know this is a difficult time for everyone. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. We encourage family members to stay connected through video chat, calling, texting, or other social media formats, and we will be here to help. Please call (808) 748-4921 to schedule virtual communications with your loved one.

Sincerely,

Darlene H Nakayama, CEO
