Palolo Chinese Home is a preferred, premier provider of long term care among Hawaiʻi’s families, serving men and women of all ethnicities.
Palolo Chinese Home offers a full continuum of care on its beautiful Palolo Valley campus for seniors and their families, including award-winning services in skilled nursing, hospice care, senior day care, overnight respite care, and rehabilitation through physical, occupational and speech therapy.
We additionally support safe aging in place for seniors to stay in their own homes, living their golden years in comfort and with dignity through residential care, nutritious and culturally attuned meals-to-go, and resources for home modifications for low-income kūpuna.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Palolo Chinese Home is proud to be a trusted partner with various health-sector, education, and community-related service organizations to amplify our impact, and create further resources for learning, support and connection.
Our nursing staff starts with an assessment of all prospective residents. Admission is based on functional abilities and nursing care needs.
Chinese immigrants were among the first plantation laborers to come to Hawaiʻi in the 19th century. Their contracts initially gave them food and shelter, but once these contracts ended, they had no housing and were often destitute. In 1896, a group of visionary community leaders saw the need to take care of these elderly immigrants who had nowhere to turn.
Drawing from a 3,000-year old Chinese ethic of benevolence and respect for the elderly, these leaders formed the roots of what would eventually become Palolo Chinese Home. As needs evolved, community contributions enabled the purchase of 15 acres in Palolo Valley—the site of today’s Home—where that same spirit of caring and commitment to reach out to others continues to thrive.
Among the first organizations to establish a home for the elderly in Hawaiʻi, and the earliest to provide day care, home care, and overnight respite services to the community, Palolo Chinese Home has much to be proud of as a local leader in affordable quality care.
