Safe, Comfortable Homes for Our Kūpuna

This program provides free home modifications to low-income seniors, living in urban Honolulu (Hawaii Kai to Aiea) Waimanalo, Kailua, and Kaneohe, who have had a fall OR hospitalization in the past 6 months, and/or have a diagnosis that impacts their safety/independence.

  • Bathroom and kitchen accessibility modifications that support independence and safety

To qualify, you must:

  • Be 62 years of age or older
  • Be a full-time resident of urban Honolulu County(e.g. Hawaii Kai to Aiea) as well as Kailua, Kaneohe, and Waimanalo.
  • Own or rent your home
  • Meet low income requirements – Household income, if filing single is less than $77,950
  • Live in a residence with essential utilities (e.g. running water, electricity).
  • Live in a residence with significant safety hazards such as a need for grab bars, improved lighting, and elimination of trip hazards
  • In the last 6 months, have had a fall, hospitalization/ER visit, and/or have a diagnosis that impacts your safety/independence

We will review the suggested free modifications with your landlord.

Applicants must provide within 30 days from your intake call:

• Proof of homeownership or rental agreement
• Copy of state ID
• Income verification documents including two recent months of bank statements and two recent years of tax returns

Your documentation must be submitted to our intake coordinator within 30 days of  your initial screening phone call.

Once eligibility is confirmed, the program includes your commitment to be present for a minimum of five scheduled visits, including our assessments, home modification installations, and follow-ups.
